Because isn’t breast cancer just in the muscle?

It is rare but entirely possible for men to get breast cancer.

Men do in fact have a small amount of breast tissue under the nipple which can become cancerous.

It is important for men to be aware of this as they often will ignore breast lumps thinking breast cancer is impossible for them. They then eventually see a doctor only after the cancer has spread elsewhere, and there is a very poor prognosis for them because of this.

Well, my left nipple looks as if it’s swollen and it’s bigger in size than my right nipple. It’s raised and is very soft. When I push down on it, it feels like there’s something hard there. I asked my mom if it’s breast cancer and she said, “Don’t worry. It’s nothing. We’ll get it checked when your physical comes up.” That’s on July 30th so at least I’m getting it checked. But is it possible?

Its great that you are getting it checked out. It is probably nothing, but anyone, at any age, can get cancer anywhere.

There may be some oncologists (cancer doctors) who specialize in breast cancer.

There is also a mammographer, which is the technician that performs mammograms.

When she was in her mom’s stomach her mom had breast cancer. Three weeks later her mom died. Plus she was 2 months premature.

She might be genetically pre-disposed to getting breast cancer – it runs in families and can be caused by a mutated gene that is passed from generation to generation.

If it is really bothering her then she can seek genetic testing (available in the US) to get an idea of what her risk is and what she can do to minimize her risk. The test can be done at a cancer center by a doctor who specializes in female cancers. After the test is done the doctor can counsel your friend about her risk (or lack of risk) and give her suggestions on what to do.

So sorry to hear about your friend’s mom and best wishes to your friend.

My teacher saw my bracelet and was all like I think the school division should band those. But it’s just like saying we can’t support breast cancer. They don’t have to be pink bracelets because colourful ones get more attention. Am I right?

I don’t sleep with my bra on coz it’s uncomfortable when I sleep, anyways I remember someone telling me that wearing a bra when you sleep can cause breast cancer coz they dont let your blood flow properly or somethig???? anyways I’m wondering if wearing a bra when sleeping can cause breast cancer?

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I have a problem with it, I’m just really curious. Why does everyone make such a big fuss about breast cancer? There’s a lot of other cancers out there, some much worse then breast cancer, and yet breast cancer is really like the only one that gets attention.

Question by Elisabeth L: Could you give me some advice about a portacath for breast cancer chemotherapy?
I have breast cancer and will soon have a portacath installed for chemo delivery. It is not optional. I am not a very squeamish person, but the whole idea of portacath insertion and maintenance creeps me out. Did any of you have the same feelings? How did you get past them? Any other portacath advice? Thank you,

I refused to have one.

It took longer at each session for them to find a vein and on one occasion it took them 10 tries to get a vein that worked. If you are prepared to put up with this, you can refuse the port.

On most occasions the nurses were able to get a vein first try.
